EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Westchester Maronite Catholic Mission

Mission Statement

The Westchester Maronite Mission (WMCM ) is a Catholic Church dedicated to offering religious,
educational and social services to our diverse Christian community living in Westchester
County and vicinity. Our goal is to acquire, over time, church premises in Westchester County
in order to accommodate a full time priest and the necessary staff; thus continually serving
the spiritual needs, and promoting the well being of all Christian sects in our community

Location: The Sisters of The Divine Compassion

@ Good Counsel Campus

52 North Broadway White Plains, NY 10603

Objectives :

- Coordinate all religious activities with the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn, NY
- Religious activities will start with a Mass service once or twice a month until such a time that the Parish is able to have its own church centre to service it’s full time religious and spiritual needs.

- Run educational and cultural programs focusing on the community’s children and strengthening their ties to the home country.

- Organize benefit events to raise funds for WMCM’s programs and goals, and participate in out-reach events with our sister Maronite churches close by.

Background:

The Maronite/Catholic Lebanese community in the Westchester area comprises of about 50-100 families spread throughout the region. Other families that expressed solid interest to join come from southern Connecticut, northern New Jersey, northern Manhattan, Queens, and other parts of New York State.

Thus far about 30-40 families have expressed interest to support the establishment of WMCM through monthly financial dues. Many are ready to commit contributions and dedicate resources towards the acquisition of a church property. Efforts will continue to be made by the Founding Committee to solicit new members and expand the circle of friends and supporters of the Parish, and to build a data base of all potential members in the area. This will be the first parish to be established in Westchester County.

Action Plan

1- Form a Founding Committee (FC) of 8-10 persons representing different families, made up of men & women of the community.

2- FC would send this Mission Statement and Executive Summary, along with a membership application form, to as many families as possible to determine a commitment of at least 25-30 families to membership dues of $50 a month.

3- FC would arrange for a meeting with our Bishop Gregory Mansour in Brooklyn to discuss the WMCM plan & get the Eparchy’s blessing and cooperation in assigning a priest to the community to celebrate Mass in Westchester once or twice a month.

4- Elect a Board of Directors

5- Establish WMCM as a not-for-profit organization with the help and oversight of the Eparchy.

6- Through membership dues, benefit events and direct contributions, FC or WMCM’s Board thereafter, would target to raise $100,000-$200,000, in 3-5 years. These funds will be earmarked as a down payment for the acquisition of a church. The premises, as in other churches, could also act as a centre for the Parish’s social and cultural activities.
